The Power of Facebook

The latest buzz around the blood center community has been Facebook. How does it work? What can it do for your blood center? With more than 175 million active users on Facebook it may be time for your center to start thinking about new ways to connect with current and future blood donors-Facebook makes it easy.

Facebook is a social media outlet used to connect with friends, family, and businesses on a personal level. The average user has 120 "friends" and with Facebook technology it makes it easy for each user to instantaneously spread information to all their friends with a click of a button! More than 24 million pieces of content are shared each month with these friends (links, stories, pictures, applications) creating an even greater recruitment and retention opportunity for your center. Facebook is made up of profiles, applications, and pages all which can be used in different ways to highlight your center while reaching your donor to take action.

What is the difference between a Facebook Profile, Facebook Application and a Facebook Page?

A Facebook Profile is created by individuals to navigate the site and communicate with friends, family and colleagues. Users can become fans of pages and download applications of interest. All activities made by the user are displayed to their profile and to their friend's profiles, making Facebook instantaneously viral. Approximately 250,000 new users are added each day!

A Facebook Page allows any business organization to have a presence on Facebook. Users can add themselves to your page as "fans", send your blood center messages, learn about special events or blood drives, upload photos, and join discussions with other donors. You can send updates to all of your "fans" of donors whenever you would like. You may also add applications to your page to engage your fans with more interactive content. More than 3.5 million users become fans of pages each day!

A Facebook Application is an interactive program that interfaces into Facebook and is developed by a software developer outside of Facebook. Facebook users download applications to their profile to make their Facebook experience more interactive and personal. Some examples of applications include games such as scrabble, tools such as tracking devices, and gifts such as bumper stickers that can be sent to friends. More than 52,000 applications are on Facebook and 95% of users have at least 1 application downloaded onto their profile. Applications can easily integrate into your blood center's Facebook page.

Industry specific Facebook Applications can attract new donors and retain your existing donors by:

  • Educating donors on the who, what, when, where, and why of donating.
  • Interacting with donors the same way they interact with their friends through a "donor community".
  • Increase blood donations with "take action" tools and viral efforts.
  • Keep connected to donors after high school.
  • Recognize donors for contributing to a good cause.

Version 2.0 of the DRM is Released!
Donor Dialogue has released the 2.0 version of their Donor Relationship Management software, branded the "DRM Touch". The DRM Touch is a module, web-based solution that manages the entire blood donor recruitment life cycle. This system offers personalized, yet systematic communication to help blood or plasma collection facilities reach their collection goals, while lowering marketing and recruitment costs.

The DRM Touch is based off of the original release but has many unique updates and functions that were developed and designed based on information obtained from DRM users. This upgraded system creates a complete picture of the donor by keeping record of a multitude of information such as donor preference, history, group memberships and even show rates. Scheduling donors has also been simplified for the blood center to allow management of both fixed and mobile sites while using the "scheduling intelligence" to pull donor eligibility. Other modules on the DRM Touch include campaign management and survey creation. Multiple blood centers have already been upgraded to this new version of the software with four more blood centers in the pipeline.

"Donor Dialogue is thrilled to announce the launch of our innovative DRM Touch software. We have taken the insights of our DRM users and created a user- friendly solution that meets the needs and wants of the blood center." states Pat Bezjak, President of Donor Dialogue. "We look forward to continually supporting our blood center clients with innovative new ways to create one-on-one relationships with their donors."
